A Brief Introduction to the Journal Homónima
- Introduction
- Homónima’s Editorial Focus:
○ Metaphilosophy
○ Interdisciplinarity
○ Metatheory
○ Focus on methodological and philosophical pluralism
- Components of the Editorial Focus and Their Significance
- Metaphilosophy:
○ Metaphilosophy is second-order thinking
○ It seeks to problematize and reflect on the methods and foundations of philosophy
○ For example, it explores the causes of philosophical disagreement
- Interdisciplinarity:
○ Philosophy that works in conjunction with knowledge and perspectives from other disciplines to address common themes
Metatheory:
○ Reflection on the foundations and assumptions of other disciplines (natural sciences, social sciences, arts, etc.)
- Methodological and Philosophical Pluralism:
○ It allows for a variety of perspectives without imposing a single one as the correct one
- Coherence and Relationship Among the Components of the Editorial Line
- The development of second-order thinking fosters mutual understanding among disciplines.
- Reflection on the foundations of other disciplines builds bridges with philosophy.
- We believe that philosophical pluralism ensures a variety of perspectives and prevents the imposition of a single viewpoint.
- Social and Academic Rationale:
○ Sparking interest in metaphilosophy among students
○ Encouraging reflection on one’s own discipline and practice
○ To promote collaboration with other disciplines and their bibliographies
○ To foster academic work at the undergraduate level and the development of original thought from the very beginning of philosophical training
○ To offer engaging and illustrative readings, such as: interviews with scholars in line with our editorial approach; essays on philosophical reading and writing supported by faculty from the Department at the University of Chile; and translations from English to Spanish for students who have difficulty with the English language.
○ Integrating the student body into the academic world of philosophy
○ Supporting the philosophical education of students from diverse backgrounds
○ Impacting students’ academic development by providing illustrative guidance on how to practice and understand their discipline.
○ The journal serves as direct support for achieving these university objectives.
- Thematic Breadth and Why It Is Not a Niche
○ The journal is extremely diverse and flexible in its subject matter.
○ The combination of elements in the editorial line allows us to cover all areas of philosophy and to engage with other disciplines. We do not limit ourselves to a niche

- Bibliographic References at the End of Texts.
Each manuscript must contain a bibliography, indicating all the works mentioned by the author, whether in the body of the text or in footnotes.

- Citation
2.1 Block Quotation
If the quotation contains 40 words or more, it should be in a separate paragraph. Do not use quotation marks for a block quotation. Indent the entire paragraph by 0.5 inches. If there are additional paragraphs within the quote, the indentation should respect the format of the cited text as follows:
Aristotle exhorts us to try to clarify or explain everything that happens. And there are as many different types of aitíai or causes as there are different types of explanations.
The Latin word causa also means a legal process, or its object. From it derives the current Spanish word causa (Anscombe, 1991, p.12).
2.2 Quotation within a Paragraph (Less than 40 words)
If a quotation consists of less than 40 words, it should be treated as a short quotation, i.e., it should be integrated into the text, enclosed in double quotation marks, and should not be in italics.
- «The name of practical philosophy refers, on the contrary, to a discipline that aims its reflection at principles, by dealing with practical reason situated in the midst of the world of action, taking it as its object» (Wieland, 1996, p. 20).
The final punctuation should go after the closing parenthesis of the citation, i.e., the period marking the end of a sentence should follow the citation and not precede it. Likewise, it is not necessary to repeat the author and year in parentheses when they already appear in the narrative of the manuscript.
2.3 Citation of Canonical Works
Classical philosophical works will be cited according to the canonical convention of each author. Some examples are provided below.
Immanuel Kant
In Kant’s case, cite referring to the edition of the «Berlin Academy of Sciences» (AA), citing the initials of the German work, the volume number, and then the pages of the edition. The only exception to this rule is the Critique of Pure Reason (KrV), which is cited, according to custom, by indicating the numbers of the first and second editions of the work, abbreviated with the letters A and B respectively.
- «The categorical imperative is thus only one, and indeed this: act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law» (GMS AA IV 421).
- «Happiness is the satisfaction of all our inclinations (extensively, in terms of their multiplicity; intensively, in terms of their degree; and protensively, in terms of their duration)» (KrV A 806/ B 834).

The Journal of Philosophy: Homonym is committed to achieving and upholding standards of ethical behavior at all stages of the publication process. We closely follow the Comettee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in terms of parameters for good practice. According to this code of ethics, our editors, evaluators and authors should assume the following responsibilities:
-
ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- It is the responsibility of the authors to offer original works, not even partially published by another publisher. Also, to confirm/affirm that the manuscript as submitted is not under consideration or accepted for publication elsewhere.
- The author(s) are obliged to offer retractions or corrections of errors; and they must offer a list of references, financial support.
- Authors should describe precisely any relevant data that is related to the results of their work. To obtain permission to reproduce any content from other sources.
- The authors undertake to mention all the people who have collaborated and contributed to the research and its results, in such a way that they appear as co-authors or collaborators.

- Authors are required to participate in a peer review.
- Promptly notify editors if you identify a significant error in your publication. Cooperate with the editor and publisher to publish a notice of erratum, addendum, corrigendum, or retraction of the manuscript, if deemed necessary.
- Not to issue or endorse hate speech against any particular group, whether based on religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, or other categorization. This type of discourse will not be accepted in the philosophical practice that concerns us here.
Evaluator Responsibility

- Reviewers are obliged to maintain the confidentiality of any information provided by the editor or author. They must not retain a copy of the manuscript.
- Alert the publisher to any content posted or submitted that is substantially similar to that being evaluated.
- Evaluators must make objections or corrections in a neutral tone and duly reasoned and argued. Criticism of a personal nature is considered inappropriate.
- Reviewers are obliged to be aware of any potential conflict of interest (financial, institutional, collaborative, or other relationships between the reviewer and the author) and to alert the editor of the conflict, if necessary, withdrawing their services for the manuscript in question.
Responsibilities of the editor
- Editors must act in a balanced, objective and fair manner while performing their expected tasks, without discrimination in terms of gender, sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs, ethnic or geographical origin of the authors.
- Editors are required to handle submissions for sponsored supplements or special issues in the same way as other submissions, so manuscripts are considered and accepted only on their academic merit and without commercial influence.
- The editorial committee will ensure that the reviewers, under any circumstances, do not try to get the author to cite irrelevant texts from journals, books and/or authors with the sole purpose of fraudulently increasing the prestige of said journal, publisher and/or author.
- The editorial team will not disclose information about the authority of manuscripts to reviewers or potential reviewers.
- Editors must always adopt and follow reasonable procedures in the event of complaints of an ethical or conflicting nature. Give authors a reasonable opportunity to respond to any complaint. - Editors are obliged to treat plagiarism as an inadmissible act. If plagiarism is detected, editors must reject the manuscript immediately.
- PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR
- PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Identifying Unethical Conduct
- Misconduct and unethical behavior can be identified and brought to the attention of the editor and publisher at any time, by anyone.
- Misconduct and unethical behavior may include, but is not necessarily limited to, the examples outlined above.
- Whoever informs the editor or publisher of such conduct must provide sufficient information and evidence for an investigation to be initiated. All allegations should be taken seriously and treated equally, until a successful decision or conclusion is reached.
Research
- An initial decision should be made by the editor, who should consult with the publisher, if appropriate.
- Evidence must be gathered, while preventing the spread of allegations beyond those who need to know them.
Minor infractions
- Minor misconduct can be dealt with without major consultation. In any case, the author must have the opportunity to respond to any allegations.
Serious infractions
- Serious misconduct may require the defendant’s employers to be notified. The editor, in consultation with the publisher or the Society in an appropriate manner, should make a decision whether or not to involve employers, either by examining the available evidence themselves or by consulting with a limited number of experts.
Results (in increasing order of severity; can be applied separately or in conjunction)
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Version 2025 – Revista Homonima
Purpose
Clear and enforceable rules are established for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the preparation, submission, evaluation and publication of manuscripts, in order to preserve scientific integrity, traceability of authorship and verifiability of sources and data.
Scope
It applies to all submissions and associated materials (main text, figures, tables, supplementary data) and to all people involved in the editorial process: authors, co-authors, editors and evaluators.
Definitions
AI tool: software or service capable of generating or transforming text, images, code, or data using automated models (e.g., language models, image generators).
Material use of AI: any AI intervention that produces or substantively modifies content, analysis, results, interpretation, figures or references.
Guiding principles
Full human responsibility: Human authors maintain full responsibility for the veracity, originality and attribution of the content. AI tools are not supported as authors.
Mandatory transparency: Any material use of AI must be accurately declared (tool, version, vendor, and function) in both the transmittal letter and the manuscript.
Verifiability: AI-generated or reviewed content must be verified by the authors; In particular, references, data and statements must be verifiable through primary sources.
Data protection and confidentiality: It is forbidden to enter non-anonymized data or confidential information into AI tools without the relevant authorizations.
Requirements for authors (mandatory)
Declaration on the transmittal letter: indicate whether AI was used; If so, describe its scope (e.g., abstract writing, language editing, figure generation, data analysis), tool, and version.
Note in the manuscript: include a section, for example «Acknowledgements» or «Methods», a brief description of the use of AI. If AI was involved in the data analysis, incorporate the methodological details and checks made by the authors.
Reference checking: any suggested or AI-generated references must be confirmed by the authors; Unverifiable references will constitute grounds for rejection and investigation.
Statement of Responsibility: The signature of the authors implies validation and responsibility for all material submitted, regardless of the degree of automated assistance.
Images y Figures generated or modified by AI
AI image generation or manipulation requires explicit statement and description of the procedure. The journal may require the original source files and documentation of the parameters used. Images whose provenance or manipulation cannot be verified will not be accepted.
Peer review and use of AI by editors/reviewers
Evaluators and editors must declare whether they used AI in the preparation of their reports. It is forbidden to upload non-anonymized manuscripts to
public AI platforms. Automatic tools may be used as support, but editorial decisions are the sole responsibility of natural persons.
Detection of Irregularities and Operating Procedure
Upon receiving signs of misuse (e.g. unverifiable references, exchanged citations, systematic patterns of error) an internal investigation will be opened.
Retain the original version of the shipment and correspondence; Perform a reference check sampling (at least 10 references), documenting each check.
Request clarification and correction in writing, within a reasonable period of time (usually one week). The communication will be formal and not accusatory in the first instance.
If the correction is adequate, continue the editorial process. If the response is insufficient, non-existent or evidences malicious conduct, escalate to the affiliated institution and, if relevant, to external editorial ethics bodies.
Infractions and penalties
The following will be considered serious offences, including: the deliberate failure to declare the use of AI, the submission of made-up references and the intentional manipulation of quotations or data. Sanctions may include: rejection of the manuscript, publication of correction or retraction, notification to the author’s institution, and temporary or permanent ban on submission by the author(s).
Registration and public transparency
When a correction, expression of concern or retraction is appropriate, the journal will publish a note explaining the reason and scope of the measure, with the aim of preserving the integrity of the scientific record.
Policy Review
This policy will be subject to periodic review and must be updated in accordance with the recommendations of international editorial ethics bodies and technological developments. The current version and its date of approval will be made public on the journal’s website.
